Over the next two weeks we'll be highlighting the incredible live sessions featured on Simon Raymonde's Amazing Radio show. Former Cocteau Twin, head of indie label Bella Union and Amazing Radio presenter, Simon has invited some of the best new artists to his studio to play live. Amongst them are Manchester's newest stars M O N E Y, grandiose songstress Jesca Hoop and today's feature Dark Dark Dark.
Dark Dark Dark are a Minneapolis-residing quintet. They straddle folk and Americana influences but ultimately end up closer to an avant-garde pop sound. It's a rich, charming and organic American vibe with Nona Marie Invie's emotive vocal finishing it all off.
Live, the balance of instrumentation is expertly executed. Wind instruments, piano and accordion all wrap themselves around each other, one falls while the other leads before seamlessly switching. Everything is given its own space to breathe but also understanding when to drop back. Daydreaming is the highlight here as Nona gently purrs "Oh the unspeakable things...". It's just beautiful.
The band have a new album on the way, scheduled for 2nd October, entitled Who Needs Who. It follows their critically acclaimed album Wild Go and they will support it with a 27 date US tour. Ahead of that, you can catch them in the UK, check out the full dates at their Facebook page.
