TUNE Tamu Massif - Rare Candy
REVEALS NEW SINGLE ‘RARE CANDY’
“Beautiful” - Lauren Laverne, 6 Music
“Well worth keeping an ear out for” - NME
Tamu Massif didn’t come around in an instant. Originally writing his songs on guitar, Dave Dixon realised there was more to his music than the usual acoustic-rouse and began experimenting with sounds old and new.
Written, recorded and produced at his home in Weston-super-Mare before being mixed in Bristol with (Perfume Genius, Youth Lagoon and PJ Harvey collaborator) Ali Chant, his material is a mirage of thick vocals, reversed guitar and Logic-heavy inspiration.
"I don't have a set process,” explains Dixon. “Quite often I start with a riff on the piano or guitar and build up sections layering stuff. A lot of the sounds are sampled vocals and guitar lines which I've played around with – stretched and loaded with effects, etc.”
‘Rare Candy’ is the third single from his forthcoming Bala EP, following previous releases ‘Holding Back’ (a viral hit globally), & ‘OK’, which have taken him over half a million plays on Spotify.
Bala is due in early 2017, the follow-up to 2015’s incredibly well-received debut, Alba, which was shown love by BBC Radio 1 and 6 Music as well as a whole host of other stations & key tastemakers.
Having previously supported the likes of C Duncan, The Japanese House & Shakey Graves live, he’s about to embark on another UK tour; this time with Felix Riebl, from the end of November.
