West London producer Measure For Measure shares debut release ‘PaperCuts’.
Sonically sitting alongside the likes of Flume, Charlie XCX and SBTRKT, ‘PaperCuts’ is an explosive pop track highlighting Measure For Measure’s colourful beat and abstract production quirks. Lyrically tackling themes of love, pain and obsession - ‘it turns me on like a thousand paper cuts’.
Speaking on the release, Measure For Measure said: “PaperCuts is a pop song about a fatal attraction, initially written on a hangover, it's about the pleasure/pain of young love. I tried to incapsulate obsession, rejection, intimacy and all the emotions that come with it.”
Measure For Measure is unashamed about his love for pop, having worked as an assistant at Abbey Road studios for years, helping to produce and engineer for rock and pop megastars. He also solely produced Emily Burns single ‘Test Drive’ which has had over 3 million streams as well as Manchester based ones-to-watch Badgirl$' on their new single ‘Stella’.
Speaking on why he feels pop is more than just a genre, Measure For Measure said “Pop affects everything now. It propels culture forward, sampling and mixing everything that came before it. It's important because it keeps culture fresh, on its toes. Language and fashion benefit massively from the pop machine. It's the engine in the cultural vehicle.”
With debut EP ‘Calories’ due for release in the coming months, if it is quirky pop productions and lyrics that stand for something you’re after, Measure For Measure should be the only name on your lips.
