From any early age I used to sing to myself but was always too shy to sing in front of anyone else. Because of this, I tried to forget about my music aspirations and spent years working in jobs such as IT trainer, systems analyst, and sub aqua instructor. By the late 1990s, my urge to sing was getting the better of me, and I started reading lots of self-help books, and contacted recording studios to see if I could get any of my songs recorded. In 1999, I teamed up with, Martin Colley, a producer and engineer, whose credits include sessions on Radios 1, and 2 with John Peel and Mark Goodyear. The project was entirely self-funded and came to a standstill when I ran out of funds. I then decided to try to make some money from my songs, and after reading yet more self-help books, I formed a 5 piece band which played covers plus some of my songs. The band folded in 2003, and I subsequently went out gigging as a duo with a guitarist. This came to an end in 2006. After that, I got distracted away from my music with moving house and having two children. Although once again, I also tried to ignore my music, it kept nagging at me, and after yet more self-help books, and this time, lots of personal therapy, my marketing efforts in 2009 resulted in me getting interviews and airplay on BBC local radio, and being featured in local newspapers.
I then stopped my marketing to get a 6 track CD produced, website produced and other bits and pieces in place before picking up the marketing again.
Now in 2010, here I am again (finally) !
Music influences: Beatles, and many 60s bands; Motown, Kate Bush, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Oasis AND blur, Carly Simon, Genesis, Alanis Morissette, Annie Lennox, George Michael, and many others ... Although this is a section on artists only, because I have read many self-help books in my quest to get myself to pursue my music, I want to also mention those. I've had to change my head around in order to go from being someone shyly watching a music program, wishing that I could be on it, to being and believing in myself as a music artist - and actually doing something to achieve that. Such books include: 'Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway' by Susan Jeffers 'Natural Born Winners' by Robin Sieger 'Mindstore' by Jack Black, and 'Succeed for Yourself' by Richard Denny As the (my) song says - its GETTING LATE ... ... so ........... GET ON WITH IT !!
