TUNE Andrew Brien - Deeper (ft. Rob Walker)
Andrew wanted a song that represented a very dark and despairing lyrical story but covered with a very paradoxic pop vocal hook to allow the listener to enjoy the song for either its happy surface or appreciate its dark layers and foundations. The song vocally is inspired by the new Scottish pop icon “Lewis Capaldi”. After seeing him live at a local venue in Glasgow, Andrew was so blown away by the emotion behind his lyrics and the absolute hooks that make them soar. That is something he tried to develop in “Deeper”.
In terms of the elements of the song he built it based on the piano... as a ballad type song. I then he developed the vibe and hook further with the synth plucks and drums, before recording in the electric guitars and then finally decorating the melody with the vocal chops.
The lyrics are ultimately about an inevitable break-up and the realisation of the singer that the end is coming near. As much as they focus a lot on the pain and struggle, there are signs of positivity particularly in lines like “But I know that I will make it somehow”. This really helps show there is a light at the end of the tunnel for the character even though the pain he is going through at the moment is causing him to drown.
The voice belongs to Rob Walker, a singer and songwriter from Edinburgh who has had success with his band "A Day Overdue" between 2009-2016. A Day Overdue did thousands of sold out shows up and down the UK and released many singles and an album - "Until Life Do Us Part"
Rob has featured on many tracks with his infectiously catchy songwriting and powerhouse vocals. His debut solo single "Never Too Late" was released worldwide on the 9th of December. Rob is the cousin of 80's pop hit maker "Dave Stewart" who had worldwide success in the British pop group "The Eurythmics".
