TUNE Jessica Winter - Play
‘Play’ is the new single from Jessica Winter, released today via Roya (Redinho, Petite Noir), and is an introduction to a visionary new artist who effortlessly blends timeless pop music with contemporary electronic influences.
‘Play’ builds layers of lush vocal harmonies alongside a pulsating bass and synth flourishes. Jessica describes ‘Play’ as an awakening – "I was stuck in a rut thinking about some really dark things that had happened in the past and wrote this song almost as an acceptance of it. The chorus ‘Press Play’ is about distracting yourself from a reality that you might not want to be in. The lyrics came as a loop, repeating over and over like the action of pressing play to escape reality, it felt like it explained everything to me. I think I was trying to channel some kind of persona that would have been helpful to me back then.”
Jessica is based in Brixton in London. Currently one half of the duo Pregoblin alongside Alex Sebley (ex-Fat White Family), Jessica has also written and produced with Jazmin Bean as well as Polish singer Brodka, and toured with Death Grips & Pumarosa. The upcoming EP 'Sad Music' features Jason Cooper from The Cure on drums on ‘World On Fire’, with additional saxophone from Alex White of Fat White Family, who also plays sax on ‘Sad Music’. ‘Chasing Nightmares’ features rising South London rapper Scuti and ‘The Other’ is produced by Jonathan Snipes of Clipping. Helping with the finishing touches on mixing duties is label mate Redinho.
