TUNE MICHELLE - The Bottom
Introducing MICHELLE, a formidable collective riding at the forefront of New York City, who announce their arrival today with “The Bottom”, a sweat-drenched celebration of their city. The band recorded a live performance video of the track in Atlantic Records Studio in New York in February.
Emma Lee (vocalist and lyricist) had to say on the track - “the song is an ode to the East river. Whispering worries to my mom by the river, mustering up the courage to dive in without fear - diving into what scares me, or into this loyal body of water”
Fearlessly interweaving R&B, 80’s synth pop, jazz and indie, the group’s unique stylings are the result of production and arrangements by Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore, with singers Jamee Lockard, Layla Ku, Sofia D’Angelo, and Emma Lee. Churning out illustrative, powerful lyrics and primary-coloured harmonies with aplomb, MICHELLE is refreshingly predominated by queer and POC members, and their sound provides a snapshot of summer days and nights in New York City – immediately recognizable to those who’ve lived them (and those that have wished to).
The Bottom is taken from the band’s self-produced debut LP HEATWAVE (listen here), which is out now on all digital platforms.
MICHELLE are also excited to reveal they have joined up with Transgressive Records in the UK and Canvasback Music/Atlantic Records for the rest of the world.
