Canton Synths is the work of AJ, a musician and filmmaker from Canton in Cardiff, UK. A prolific songwriter, AJ is addicted to creating the kind of music he wants to hear. Oh, and crack. Influences include synthwave, dreampop, post-punk and alt-rock. AJ lives in Cardiff with tolerant wife Sonia; dogs Joe and Phoebe, who get way more likes and shares than AJ’s music ever does; and Taffy Gaddafi, an African Grey who sits in his cage listening to Classic FM like Hannibal Lector, heckling AJ whenever he tries to record vocals.
‘There Wolf, There Castle’ is the second EP from Canton Synths (following 2017’s ‘They’re Coming to Get You, Barbara’). The four track EP was recorded over the course of 2018 and sees new collaborations with Vince Dyke, who had previously played guitar on the 2017 track ‘Ebbw Vale’; bassist Dylan McCarthy; and singers Cat Southall and Amanda Sanderson. Cover art is by Vince Dyke. The title of the EP is a quote from one of AJ’s favourite films, ‘Young Frankenstein’.
