‘Hill's eclectic storytelling delivers a truly honest and skin crawlingly candid insight into some of her darkest thoughts’ – The Line of Best Fit
After the success of her debut single and support slots for Let’s Eat Grandma, Mahalia and Maximo Park, Newcastle’s Martha Hill previews the gritty follow-up ‘Wallflower’.
Highlighting themes of conformity and social anxiety, Hill narrates the cleverly-crafted, alternative track by discussing the idea that even the most obvious extroverts have introverted tendencies. As an inherent storyteller, Hill’s songwriting ability is captivating, explaining further: “Wallflower is a tongue in cheek song about how every person is made up of many different characters that they invent for themselves”.
The talented multi-instrumentalist left her native Scottish hometown at 17 to pursue her grand musical ambitions. Since then she’s honed her craft and developed a distinct sound influenced by both her European travels and left-field artists such as Tune-Yards and Sylvan Esso. Feeling inspired on her return to the UK, the raconteur swiftly formed a band and set off on her first tour, sharing her infectious stories across the country.
With previous support from The Line of Best Fit, BBC 6 Music and Spotify’s Fresh Finds playlist, as well as another UK tour in the pipeline, Martha Hill’s ascent shows no sign of slowing.
