TUNE Christy - Dancing With Air
Over the course of the singles Christy has put out this year, it became obvious that all tracks on his upcoming debut EP (August 2020) were inspired by the break up of a serious relationship from a girl whose family had become his own, after a difficult adolescence. In "Dancing With Air", the Scottish songwriter presents the ultimate desperation that comes from wanting to go back to a place or a person, hoping one day things will mend.
Evoking serious Hozier-vibes, Christy employs an unusual, intricate guitar style on this single, one which he developed busking, gliding through a chord and “using a weird pattern with my hand”, throwing in little jazzy fills. It was partly inspired by his hero John Martyn. Jazz has always been one of Christy’s main musical stimulants, just one of the directions he might pursue in the future. For now he's sticking with earthy folk and has already gained a big following, his socials growing by a thousand followers a week, his latest singles heavily featured in big playlists on the streaming services.
