TUNE David Shurr - Heaven
Shurr said: “I’ve decided to release the new single in light of all the political activism that’s taking place on social media currently.
“This song has been in production for a number of months, but I feel it is lyrically relevant to the current socio-political climate of my generation.”
Shurr, who has in the past received airplay on Dermot O’Leary’s Radio 2 show, said he composed the music in an unusual way.
“I wrote this song after waking up one morning with the lyrics and melody ringing very clearly in my mind.
“I’d had a dream where I was working as usual in my music room and recording the song – this very song, which technically didn’t exist until I woke up and grabbed the guitar, determined to remember it all.
“It’s a strange phenomenon to compose and arrange a piece of music in this way. It’s as if the music already exists because you’ve literally heard it before.”
British-born Shurr says he draws from his American familial roots and multicultural upbringing – he was raised in South East Asia – to form an “alt-pop niche of poetic lyricism, jangling guitars, psyche-swirling melodies and teatowel-covered drumbeats”.
