TUNE Emily Burridge - Prayer for the Fishermen
Tags
The track "Prayer for the Fishermen" develops out of a song sang by a Chief and his daughter of the Tremembe Indian tribe of the North East Brazil. Recorded on location in their village when I was researching tribal music and folk music in the region for my second release "Footsteps in the Sand". Rather than singing the lyrics I say them: "This is a Prayer for the fishermen, For those people, out there, At that place at the end of the line, Where their world is just sea and sky. Our boat is led through dark waters, Our tears are of the Sea." Lyrics & production - Emily Burridge. Percussion - Jody Linscott.
When I refer to "end of the line" it is because when I told people where I was going to research they said "that place - that's the end of the line"....I took the bus and got out when it could go no further.....inspiring place of coconut groves and a full moon that rose out of a vast sea and I watched it while drinking some local "hooch" with the fishermen. The next day I was led to the tribal village by a child who I met whilst I was out walking in the groves....it is memories such as these that I draw from when I am back producing in the studio in England....stylistically I call it Ambient World Music
