The London trio - songwriter and producer Zoe Mead, multi-instrumentalist Mariin Kallikorm and Jack Gooderham on drums - also share a second single from the anticipated release, which comes alongside a headline show at London’s The Waiting Room on Wednesday 27 September :
The second single to be taken from Hitchhiker, ‘-45’ is an emotional journey of a synth-pop outing, which develops out of its eerie, Woman’s Hour-esque introduction into a gently driving cut, transporting the listener to a thought-provoking, dream-like escape.
“This loneliness is making me high / This darkness, I’m taking my time”, Mead cries with typical authority, above increasingly crunching guitar work.
Of the track she explains, “‘-45’ was written in the dead of winter at the beginning of this year. It's about being secluded, away from human contact and technology, which could sometimes make a person fearful of where their own mind could take them without everyday distractions. The song concludes with the realisation that solitude can actually lead to self-discovery and make you happier in the long-run. It's important to be alone sometimes to allow space to become familiar with your own mind and how it works.”
Following-on from the title track, which picked up coverage from the likes of EARMILK and Indie Shuffle, as well as plays on Virgin Radio and a spot on Spotify’s tastemaker Fresh Finds playlist, ‘-45’ continues to showcase Wyldest’s unique ability to blend catching, emotional dream-pop songwriting with a thought-provoking, shoegaze hue.
