TUNE Good Spirits - Lewisham Bicycle Boys
British singer songwriter Mrs Q (Danielle Quinn) and Japanese guitarist & songwriter Mr Y (Osamu Yano) make up the writing, recording and performing duo, Good Spirits. Their story starts not long after Osamu settled in the UK, in a suburb of South East London, where they met and formed a band in their teens.
Knowing each other since their teens has made Good Spirits' new music sound instinctive, sub-conscious, stripped back and intimate. Creating dreamy minimal jazz, pop, country and doo-wop. Taking influences from artists like The Carpenters, Simon & Garfunkel, Astrud Gilberto & Stan Getz, Alessi Brothers, The Flamingos, Joni Mitchell and Morrissey.
Within Good Spirits' sound, there is often a restrained minimalism in Mr Y's guitar playing, owing to Osamu's classically trained background and love of Baroque music, which gives space to Mrs Q's emotive and expressive vocals. With just the two of them, there is no 'trend' or effects to hide behind. The melodies in their stories and secrets ring out and confess, giving Good Spirits a timeless sound.
With the duo's song titles such as Lewisham Bicycle Boys, The Crowd and Mr President, Good Spirits' songs often refer to their external surroundings and social observations with a little humour thrown in, but also move internally with traditional Japanese anchor style songs such as Two Years and dreamy tracks like Cruel Game.
Good Spirits will be playing a handful of intimate live shows in people's living rooms. Please join the twitter & facebook pages for more details if you'd like them to play at your home.
