Jakaira is a soulful electro/trip hop project created by Lisbon based duo Roman Wroblewski and Noémi Dos Santos. Roman Wróblewski is a Polish born artist, with experience playing in bands and who has honed his skills as a producer with his solo electro project Totally Together. After training in classical music and playing in Punk and Reggae bands (Enchantia) , Roman has decided to focus on his love for electronic music, each composition of his album taking you on a journey. Noémi is a Paris born singer songwriter and composer , who has collaborated with different producers in Paris, London and Lisbon. She released her own EP “The Attic Steps” while living in London, along with producer Chris Jones and with guest musicians such as Fraser McColl (Jungle) or Liran Donin and Pete Grogan (Led Bib). Her unique soulful tone of voice is a testimony of her ethnic background (Eurasian mother and Cape verdean father) While meeting in Lisbon, their desire was to experiment allying their different musical influences and experiences to create a project that would combine a soulful electronic sound with sharp lyrics and challenge the audience with sounds and emotions. The result is a 3 tracks EP which celebrates Life and Love, through different perspectives both light and dark. The musical decor reminds us of artists such as Massive Attack, Sade and the new alternative r&b scene (Lapsley, Dawn Richards, Sampha, Kelela...) If one listens carefully, we can hear a sample of the noise of the streets of Paris, to pay tribute to Noémi’s birthplace. Jakaira’s EP was recorded in their studio and mixed and mixed in Poland by Milosz Karpowicz (from the band Drewnofromlas) Whilst currently in trouble waters, Jakaira is a reminder that Europe’s strength and beauty lies in diversity, freedom of movement and that with open minds and open hearts, beautiful things come out of it.
