TUNE jellyskin - Mountain
When writing 'Mountain', we bastardised a few select drum samples from noises we'd recorded ourselves or drum machine WAVs we'd found online; we constructed most of the percussive elements from there. Among other things, we were listening to artists like Perc, Autechre, and SOPHIE at the time of writing and producing which could explain some of the song’s cold, regimented feel. 'Mountain' started life as the single distorted kick drum heard all the way through. We love the idea of a song of two halves, and the more wistful coda seemed like a fitting development. Recently we've been twinning our vocals because we like how they sound together, but for the chorus we wanted something grand and euphoric that maybe sits oddly with the thumping backing. We've always thought choral music has a place in electronic music, such as the Deep Throat Choir with Simian Mobile Disco, or Ian William Craig. 'Mountain' is a shift in a direction that we have been exploring a lot more on our upcoming album.
