“When it comes to setting the bar high, Canadian r&b-pop artist Josh Sahunta never lets his feet touch the ground. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist and singer uniquely positions himself as a songwriter with substance through the intertwining of haunting melodies and storytelling lyrics.
Josh celebrated the release of his debut full length album Dissonance in late October 2017. Coming fresh out of finishing a degree in clinical psychology at the University of Alberta, Josh has taken many of the concepts learned in school and has put them into an album that speaks candidly about the state of one’s mental health in a slowly disintegrating relationship. Dissonance features guitar work from internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter Joey Landreth, and it has also gained attention not only from major Spotify playlists, but from commercial and campus radio in Canada and the UK as well. More recently, Josh has been self-producing his own projects and his recent release “Bad” garnered over 30,000 Spotify streams in under 3 weeks.
Drawing upon his influences of John Mayer, Ed Sheeran and The Weeknd, Josh's songwriting is packed with deeply rich narratives and cool, contemporary soundscapes. Josh was nominated for two Edmonton Music Awards (Male Artist of the Year, and R&B/Soul Recording of the Year) and for a Western Canadian Music Award for "Urban Artist of the Year" in 2017 and continues to build upon those accolades.
Josh also regularly uses his talents for humanitarian causes. In 2017 he visited Uganda, Africa to work with an organization called “Our Village Community Partnership” to teach music at a school in an extremely impoverished area. More recently, he has created a charitable campaign around his song “Bad”, which speaks about the idea of temptation. Teaming up with an Edmonton-based clothing line, Josh has released a custom bracelet that will be sold at his performances, with 50% of the proceeds going to ACT Alberta, an organization that aims to get women out of human trafficking; a highly “temptation-driven” industry.
