TUNE KYRI - Sanctuary
“‘Sanctuary’ is a sort of love letter to Mother Nature. It describes the darker side of our modern city living & it’s possible effects on our minds - anxiety & depression, as well as its effects on the earth - pollution, climate change & extinction. It’s a longing to return to what once was, to purity, connectedness, to inner peace.
The song could also be interpreted as a call out to an ex lover, ‘the one that got away’ (perhaps from a toxic relationship), or to family, a long lost friend, maybe a higher power - The Universe, God, whatever that is for you. Maybe it’s even a call out to a former version of yourself.
I love exploring the idea of putting yourself back together again; self re-birth. When I first sat down at the piano to write ‘Sanctuary’, the first lyric I wrote was ‘If you remember me, reassemble me’. The rest just grew from there. It was quite a therapeutic process.”
