London trio Manilow are forging new shapes with punk, alternative rock and heavy Post-punk.
Their songs explore themes of relationships, escape, psychosis and dissolution, using lyrical vignettes and driving hooks.
Manilow's live shows have drawn comparisons to artists as diverse as Wire, Sonic Youth, Bauhaus and Television - clues that the sound of the band is hard to pigeonhole. "We don't aim for 'a sound', we're more honest and ragged than that. Our songs are about real life, there's no redemption stories, no cute resolutions. We just play the stuff we are going through.", says singer/guitarist Dean Moston.
"It's our job to not just regurgitate the best bits of alternative music from the past, but to make new meaning with it" adds Bass guitarist Paul Chamberlain.
And the tired notion of another 'power trio'? Hyperactive man-on-the-sticks and raucous backing choirboy Gary Cardno prefers the mantle 'Power Shower'… "Or just 'power everything', is that a genre?"
