TUNE Men in the Sky - If I go
The Band have been back in the studio with x Factory Records’ Michael Johnson with the release of single ‘If I go’.
The emphasis is on innovative production and riffs aplenty. In a rebuttal statement to the norms of pop music today, guitars and synths feature prominently as the main hook in the song.
The Band are faithful to their modus operandi of 70’s and 80’s inspired influences and during the course of the 6 months at Tankfield studios used several templates from the era including Jan Hammer (Crockett’s Theme pulsing synth bass style), Nik Kershaw (the technique of doubling up synth and guitar leads), New Order (taking from Peter Hook’s use of melodic bass lead), Genesis (mimicking Tony Bank’s gliding lead keyboard sound), Genesis again (banging drums emanating from Phil Collins 1975 to 1982 era), Robert Tepper from the Rocky IV soundtrack (inspiring the screaming lead guitar), Roobarb and Custard 70’s children’s TV show (sound of the theme tune replicated for the synth over the distorted chords)!
