TUNE NERVES - Tell Me I'm Pretty
“Tell Me I’m Pretty” is a song about modern society’s obsession with image. It’s not a bad thing that everyone’s going to the gym and keeping fit and healthy. It’s the excessive and obsessive involvement of social media in these personal journeys that grinds our gears. Influencers depict an idealistic and unattainable lifestyle that everyone’s so desperately trying to have themselves. It drives a never-ending vortex of anxiety and narcissism. You find people filming their workouts at the gym gawking themselves in the mirror desperate for a couple of likes on the gram dreaming of being sent free teeth whitening kits for a living. The gym has become about vanity over health and social media is forging a divide between actual reality and people's heightened reality. I think the majority of young lads now feel an obligation to go to the gym like a rite of passage or something. It’s all well and good just keep your bent over row, low cal dinners and gym shark endorsements to yourselves. The irony is that it’s probably a fairly decent track to work out too.
