Having cut his teeth as a solo acoustic live performer, multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Omar Anthony gathers inspiration from dance, funk, pop and rock to reflect these uncertain times, blending drum machine based grooves with strong guitar riffs and melodic vocal hooks. It is a colourful clash of old and new, now presented in a fully electronic live set-up.
A two time UK songwriting contest semi-finalist and former member of a number of genre spanning Midlands based bands, Omar Anthony tries to draw on a wide variety of musical influences to create something unique. After learning how to apply these different styles by working with many other musicians, it then all became about going solo and searching for the right sound.
The one-man gigs started in 2007, firstly under the name Fake Sheik and then Omar Anthony. There were support slots for local acts like Tara Chinn and Lee Mitchell and appearances at venues like the Hare and Hounds, The Flapper & Firkin, The Victoria, Katie Fitzgerald’s and the Yardbird Jazz Club as well as Birmingham ArtsFest.
An arsenal of songs has been built up over this time and will reveal itself with a series of releases, the first being digital single ‘Deceived By The Lights’, produced by ex-bandmate and co-collaborator Fatbwoi... an ‘Indietronic’ ally.
