TUNE Feorm - Feorm - The Sea
Features on Feorm radio sampler - Track 2
RELEASED: 23rd APRIL 2012
Norfolk based Instrumental collective Feorm release their self titled debut album through Fen Tiger on April 23th.
The band were brought together by their love of post-rock, post-punk, 60s British psychedelia and krautrock/ kosmische music such as Can and Neu! This along with their appreciation for the art of improvised and unrehearsed music, forged the foundations of Feorm.
After setting up their instruments in a dimly-lit barn heated only by the warmth of their amplifiers, the group started to improvise, and instantly began to lock into one another’s wavelength. Jams were quickly refined and then recorded, often on the first take to capture that magic of improvisation.
Feorm bassist, Allan Murray said: “A musical idea is never more pure than the very first time it is expressed, and that’s what we tried to capture”.
Perhaps it was the cold, isolated immediate surroundings of where the music was created, but you can’t help but be hypnotised by the introspective grooves supplied by Feorm. Maybe that’s the magic of improvised music, there is an unsettling parallel universe exposed by the band on the record.
12 instrumental pieces were born out of the recorded sessions without pre-conceptions of any genre or sound (they were locked up in a barn after all). Like any music lovers, each member of the group brought with them influences too wide and numerous to list.
Despite the organic and ambitious nature of the recording process, this is a fully-formed, wholly-realised and perceptive full-length that pulls the past into the present while offering a renewed sense of hope and excitement about the future.
“Feorm imbue their songs with a heavy but soothing atmosphere. Layers of instrumentation and feeling build in increasingly dramatic, emotionally-charged soundscapes.”- Record Collector.
A limited release of 1000 copies of ‘Feorm’ will be released on 23 April 2012.
