TUNE Paul Henry Dallaire - Princess Maggie Vs Big Oil in Alberta
The lady was a full blooded Chippewa Indian from Shania Twain's home town of Timmins, ON. Canada and also the place where I was born.
She was a character "who could skin a beaver faster than you can smoke cigarette" my father said. She lived in a cabin there at the foot of Kamiskotia mountain.
Near the turn of the century Maggie's husband and two children died of the cholera and she buried them on an island on kamiskotia lake.
When she was admitted to the old age home she would run away to her cabin on the shores of Kamiskotia lake.
I think it's our job as songwriters to bring these things to light and sometimes we can set the record straight.
She's dead now and there's not even a grave marker in our local cemetery. MMmmm. You'd think Shania Twain would mention her once in a while in her travels around the world after all she's from here too.
