One of 2018’s breakout stars G Flip, aka Melbourne singer, drummer and multi-instrumentalist Georgia Flipo, enters 2019 blazing with two new tracks ‘Drink Too Much’ and ‘Bring Me Home’. The tracks demonstrate the versatility of the talented young artist and are available on all platforms now.
Speaking about new single ‘Drink Too Much’, G Flip says: “This is one of my oldest songs I perform. I wrote it after a big night at Melbourne club Revolver. I used to be a bit of a party animal back in the day before I settled down to take my career seriously. My music is a bit like an open diary. It’s a fun song but it also tells how I was feeling at the time: I got dumped, I was lonely and I was young and dumb.”
On Tuesday, G Flip shared the video to ‘Bring Me Home’, a gorgeously emotive ballad about her mental state over the course of the most intense period of her life. She said of the track and video: “I’m excited to share a new track today ‘Bring Me Home’. I wrote it quite recently. 2018 was an epic, exciting, exhausting year for me and my brain struggled to keep up. I had quite a bit of anxiety and frankly, it scared the shit out of me. It was really overwhelming and this song is about that. It’s ok not to be ok sometimes.
I needed the film clip to be emotional like the song. I wrote this song when I was breaking down so I wanted to portray that in the visual. I can’t act to save my life so I put myself in a hot warehouse on a 36 degree day and drummed for 6 hours straight until I couldn’t anymore to show that real emotion and convey what I was feeling.”
Since the release of her debut track ‘About You’ in early 2018, G Flip has become one of the most talked about artists in Australia and one of the biggest breakthroughs around the world. The breakout single scored a Pitchfork Best New Track and landed in the top 20 of the Spotify Global Viral Charts. Combined with her second single ‘Killing My Time’, G Flip’s two releases have already received over 23 million streams and G wowed industry and fans with her debut performances at SXSW, The Great Escape, Field Day UK and Splendour in the Grass, before selling out her debut Australian tour.
A refreshed G Flip is set to have a huge 2019, as she announces three special European shows in May, with more to be announced soon.
