Ficus Date: 13th April “Black Butter Records have unearthed another gem” – HUNGER TV “A unique take on electronic music” – EARMILK “The future is looking bright for Sam Sure” – DIGITAL SPY Following his electrifying solo debut ‘Hunger’, which dropped in late 2014 to widespread praise, London based singer-songwriter Sam Sure shares new track ‘Cracks’, set for release via ascendant UK electronic label Black Butter Records. Slowly building from a dreamlike, layered vocal loop, atmospheric percussion heralds the sharp lyricism that Sam has been making a name for over the past few months, as he guides the listener through the story of a relationship breakdown steeped in allegory and emotion. “Oh what did we do”, he asks before the chorus bursts into life, cracks in the pavement becoming the fault lines of a love gone wrong. “I would say my music is definitely lyrically led and my main focus,” Sam comments. “Everything else dates and changes but the lyrics are eternal. In a way, 'Cracks' is a sad track. Everyone goes through the same shit – things start flawless and new and over time become worn and cracked. The amazing thing about life is as an individual, you don't imagine that others could be feeling the way you do. Your own pain, love and doubt is deeper than others’. It's why honest and open lyrics connect on a personal level, as if they tap into something you thought was exclusive to you.” Sam was propelled into the spotlight after his collaboration with London based producer Sam O’Neill aka TCTS on ‘You’ swiftly notched up hundreds of thousands of Soundcloud plays and his heartfelt verses soon caught the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Annie Mac, Zane Lowe & Huw Stephens who all went on to support ‘Hunger’. Further support followed from the likes of Stereogum, i-D, Hunger, Earmilk and Mixmag. With a combined one million Soundcloud plays and counting for both tracks, Sam Sure is fast becoming one of the UK’s most exciting emerging artists and ‘Cracks’ further cements that position. Welcomed into the Black Butter family last summer, Sam Sure’s ‘Cracks’ follows smash releases from Gorgon City, Rudimental and Clean Bandit. The single also coincides with a run of live dates for the London-based artist, as he sets off with BBC Sound of 2015 winners Years & Years as the main support on their sold out UK headline tour.
