“Through his words and melodies he taps into a perspective that feels universal, channelling emotion to which we can somehow all relate” – HUNGER TV
“Sharp, simple lyricism through which the London singer/songwriter sums up a load of real feels”
“The future is looking bright for Sam Sure” – DIGITAL SPY
London based singer/songwriter Sam Sure announces his debut EP for award-winning label Black Butter Records, titled Catching Feelings and set for release on 1st April 2016.
On the title track and Two Inch Punch produced lead single Catching Feelings’, Sure gives a shimmering introduction to his typically frank lyricism; herald fizzing synths and an irresistible chorus. As Sam explains, “Catching feelings is specifically about falling in love, it’s a sickness really.”
“’Oh My God’ is darker,” he continues. “It’s the questions, the doubts, the fights, the mess.” Sure continues his listeners’ journey with the EP’s second offering, as he repeats the heartfelt refrain of the title over muted percussion, asking “Why would anybody fall in love?”
Sure proves he can move into club territory with the electric ‘Stay There’, while the touching piano notes of ‘Signs Of Life’ bring the tempo down and showcase Sam doing what he does best – tearing up your heartstrings and making you dance at the same time. Indeed these moments of conflict are a core part of his songwriting process, taking the listener through the ups and downs that occur in everyday life. He confirms, “I just want to make records that are honest. These songs are like polaroids. Moments that define relationships.”
Propelled into the spotlight in late 2014 following a collaboration with London based producer Sam O’Neill aka TCTS, Sam Sure soon caught the attention of Radio 1’s Zane Lowe and Annie Mac, returning with the stunning follow up single ‘Hunger’ before 2015’s wistful double effort ‘Cracks’ and ‘Me & You’ for Black Butter.
From touring with BBC Sound of 2015 winners Years & Years on their sold out UK headline tour to graffitiing the backdrop for Skepta and Fekky’s ‘Way Too Much’ video, it’s hard to pigeonhole a figure whose talents stretch from vivid street art to profound storytelling through music.
The Catching Feelings EP is released 1st April 2016 via Black Butter Records.
