TUNE Broen - Boy
“Boy, you ratted me out” – and so begins the latest instalment from Norwegian genre-benders Broen [Brooh-en]. It’s not the first time vocalist Marianna Røe has divulged disdain and apparent disenchantment, with debut single ‘Iris’ promptly hailed “an ‘Every Breath You Take’ for indie stalkers” (The Guardian).
New single ‘Boy’ continues in a similarly striking fashion: “What starts as a sombre synthpop ballad grows into a frantic guitar breakdown. Much like the tumultuous stages of a relationship falling apart, the song unravels faster and faster” (Consequence of Sound).
It’s not all doom and gloom though, with ‘Boy’ riding a surprisingly comical, cartoonish undercurrent. “It’s basically about feeling so taken aback by someone’s actions that you feel like a cartoon,” Røe explains.
