TUNE Melby - Cross
As premiered on The Line of Best Fit
”Over a chiming, winding riff which recalls some of Dungen's lighter moments, Wiezell delivers a laconic, cooing vocal which gives "Cross" a practically horizontal vibe. There's a touch of Cate Le Bon to the singer's lower register tones, and when a wandering organ solo cuts into the track halfway through it renders the whole thing a touch otherworldly, and wholly brilliant."” – The Line of Best Fit
The Swedish indie pop quartet Melby, based in Stockholm, are back following last year's acclaimed debut single "Human" with a new single titled "Cross", which arrives alongside the announcement of their self-titled debut EP. Led by Matilda Wiezell's enchanting voice it's a gorgeous piece of psychedelic indie pop, a perfect introduction to the debut EP – which is set to arrive in May via Stockholm label Rama Lama Records.
Stockholm quartet Melby received a lot of attention in their native Sweden when they debuted with "Human" early last year, which was hailed as “one of the best pop singles of the year” by Swedish music magazine HYMN and followed by the atmospheric second single "Regnet". Since then the band have played live around Sweden, as well as in Norway, and have drawn comparisons to acts such as Dungen, Amason and Daughter.
New single "Cross" is the first piece of new music from Melby in ten months and a first taste of what’s to come later this spring. "Cross" finds the band showing off some of their characteristic qualities via distinct guitar solos mixed with well-crafted synth bass lines and folky harmonies. The quartet's light, semi-psychedelic folk pop is led by Matilda Wiezell's enchanting voice which fits perfectly with Melby’s musical landscape. Wiezell recently provided guest vocals on label mates Steve Buscemi’s Dreamy Eyes' single "Closer", which was released last month to praise from DIY, Billboard, Amazing Radio and many more.
The band will release their debut self-titled EP in May via Rama Lama Records and a new single is to expect in April. Melby consists of Matilda Wiezell (vocals, synth), Are Engen Steinsholm (guitar), David Jehrlander (bass) and Teo Jernkivst (drums).
