2 A Heavy Crownairplay
“The Flood” is the final track to be shared from Sam’s long-awaited debut album In Darkened Rooms, which was released in May on Hide & Seek Records - the Leeds-based label that Sam helps to run. A long process of personal setbacks and industry complications delayed the release to a point where we were never sure if it would see the light of day. However having finally achieved the cathartic release with a strong positive reaction, we wanted to share a final single from it this year. Whilst the recorded version builds to a swell of strings and crashing drums, it was originally written on an old battered piano, with Sam depicting a battle against darkness and being prepared for that fight when the time comes. Sam says that it is about perspective and stepping out of ones situation to fully understand it, but with a hopeful message that our time is short and we should make the most of it. The release is accompanied by the sparse and delicateB-side of ‘A Heavy Crown’ which was recorded in the same sessions as the album.
