Every Day an Adventure
High Velocity/End July 2014
I have just come back from an amazing three-week tour in Wisconsin USA! Too many highlights to mention them all, but what a time I had! My wife Marlene came with me for half the tour and we did have some down time to see the beautiful landscape and visit with wonderful friends! This is the fifth time I have been in WI, so I must be doing something right if they want me back! The tour had a real variety to it and I played everywhere from churches to jail to prison to a wine lounge bar to outdoor and indoor events…three weeks of playing almost every day, sometimes with radio interviews and playing three times in the one day!
Every day was an adventure, and I met the most amazing people. We held a song writing workshop for young people in the Green Lake area. Although only three kids came - Addison, Randy and Kelsey - they were all excellent! One of the young girls, Kelsey Oleman, came up with some great ideas and I helped her write a song ’You Are A Sunset’! It was so good she came and sang it at my concert in Green Lake Town Square two nights later…she was so great she sang it twice!
I have to say playing in two prisons and one jail stays in your memory, but it can also bring about some of the most inspiring nights of the tour and I go there not just to ‘Rock Out’ but to bring hope and love!!! I was able to touch the souls of these men and women and I’m really thankful for that!!
I played three songs at a Human Trafficking Awareness Conference in Fond du Lac. I had never played at something like this and felt a deep honour to contribute in some small way to help highlight this major problem. I was really humbled and affected by what I heard that day and it was quite difficult to sing at times, but I got through it and the songs ’Too Young To Be This Old’…’The Silent Youth’…and ‘Win the War’..were all the more powerful in the emotional atmosphere!!
I had such a great entourage of friends who supported the gigs led by the wonderful Gena Kok who organised the tour! Too many adventures to recount, but playing in the capital city of Madison was great…..supporting the ’Kids from Wisconsin’ was definitely my biggest crowd….right up to my last concert at the Marsh Haven Nature Centre….outdoors, idyllic setting with so many friends coming to say farewell until the next time!!!
