TUNE Thyla - Only Ever
Brighton’s post-punks Thyla announce the release of their eagerly anticipated debut EP What’s On Your Mind?, out 1st February via REX Records and today share lead single "Only Ever".
Tipped for big things throughout the last twelve months, the rising four-piece found themselves spotlighted amongst NME’s 100 Essential Acts for 2018, and have fast solidified their status as one of the UK’s finest emerging indie acts with a slew of support slots alongside the likes of Slaves, Sunflower Bean, and Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever.
Summoning praise from all corners of the press (Pitchfork, Stereogum, Brooklyn Vegan, DIY), the emerging indie juggernauts sparkle throughout their debut EP; from the sombre yet dreamy Candy to the adrenaline-fuelled Blue and fiercely infectious latest effort Only Ever, What’s On Your Mind is a glittering showcase of Thyla’s limitless potential.
Exploring the ideas behind their upcoming release, frontwoman Millie Duthie stated: “All of the songs on our debut, in some way, talk about the ills of today’s ‘social network’. The lyrics are based on negative personal experiences and a subsequent thirst to understand what it is that has made us so miserable”.
“There’s pressure everywhere online to project your thoughts and feelings about pretty much everything. It’s self-fulfilling, the more you give away the more you feel compelled to give away. The ‘social network’ feeds off of individuals’ social anxiety by introducing a point scoring system of likes and shares that creates a competitive market for the mundane; a virtual playing field for status. It’s made the private public and we’re all obsessed!”.
Hitting the road for their first headline UK tour next month, including the quartet’s biggest London show to date at The Lexington, Thyla will be heading over to the US in March for their debut appearance at SXSW and a series of US tour dates.
“What’s On Your Mind? is our first collection of songs to come out at once and we don't plan on slowing down our output”, Duthie explains. “Writing has been and will continue to be key for us this year. It’s what we love to do, the pressure is on and we’re up for the challenge”.
Produced by Macks Faulkron and mixed by Alex Newport (At The Drive-In, The Mars Volta, Weaves), Thyla’s What’s On Your Mind? is released 1st February and will be available on all digital platforms.
