“Acoustic Foot-Stompers” Rita Payne (Rhiannon Scutt and Pete Sowerby) are one of the UK’s fastest rising acts. From supporting some of the country’s leading artists to appearing on BBC One’s The Voice UK, this unstoppable duo’s voyage to superstardom is unquestionable.
Drawing from eclectic mix of musical tastes, from Fleetwood Mac and The Beatles to Paloma Faith and Beirut, Rita Payne use breathtaking vocal harmony, mesmerising guitar riffs and toe tapping beats to create their own unique brand of acoustic music that is enjoyed by the most traditional folkies, rockers and chart lovers alike.
Even though they rub shoulders with the likes of Jon McClure, John Otway and Wilko Johnson on a regular basis, this small town duo still have their feet firmly on the ground and are always eager to promote their hometown. “Doncaster’s finest songwriters,” were commissioned to write the Official Anthem of Doncaster for the opening of the new multi million pound arts venue- Cast, and performed it to a thousand strong sell out crowd. They then went onto make history by becoming the first musicians to headline the venue.
Wherever possible, Rita Payne use their music to make a difference. They are keen activists and regularly support charities both local and global, using their rapidly growing profile to publicly raise both money and awareness whenever and wherever they can.

“Rita Payne never disappoint. Track after track of gorgeous harmonies and sparkling blues-tinged guitar all delivered with impeccable style.”— BBC Introducing 2013
“Rita Payne are capable of subtle magic. They’ve already pinpointed their strong points and there’s little doubt that future releases will see greater refinement of their talents. It’s the duo’s vocals that are the main attraction here; Scutt and Sowerby’s vocals which harmonise throughout, blend excellently with Scutt’s sweetness and control, complimenting the occasional hints of grit in Sowerby’s tuneful, adaptable croon. This début release sets out the Rita Payne stall with impressive purpose.”
Ian Fildes, Americana UK - Feb 2013
“This was one of the best support acts I’ve ever seen and if there’s any
justice this talented, original Doncaster duo will be going places.” Richard Watts, Classic Rock Society, October 2013
