Ummagma is an eclectic potpourri of dreampop, indie rock, electronica, post-rock, ethereal wave, space rock, post-punk, ambient and shoegaze. Their musical play is full of resonance, beats, rhythm and airy gossamer vocals on a bed of dreamy soundscapes.
Ummagma won the 2013 Alternative Eurovision, hosted by Dani Charlton on Amazing Radio, representing Ukraine from amongst 21 countries, repeating this feat in 2014 on Pure 107.8 FM. Ummagma has held steadily in the Scottish New Music Chart since August 2012 and also in NYC’s Indie Darkroom Chart from August 2012 to May 2014. Ummagma also picked up 2 awards at the 2013 Australian Independent Music Video Awards, as well as a full-spread feature in Rolling Stone Russia.
Ummagma began as an affair of love and sound. Band members Alexx Kretov and Shauna McLarnon met in Moscow while soul searching, their relationship ultimately developing into a marriage and the musical partnership we know today as Ummagma.
In 2012, Ummagma independently released 2 full-length LPs ("Ummagma" and "Antigravity"), loaded with the ethereal escapism of Cocteau Twins, the melancholic musing of David Sylvian, flight-filled soundcapes of Pink Floyd, and eternal optimism of The Sundays. After releasing the ‘Rotation’ single on Emerald & Doreen Recordings in December 2012, their next May 2014 release 'Lama' is heavily in synthpop electronic territory, featuring remixes by the legendary Alexander Robotnick and an array of other international producers.
