takes on the stigma of mental health in new single ‘Down Days’
“The Irish Sigrid!” - Tracey Clifford, RTE2FM
“Delicious pop music, it's infectious and charming in all the right places” - CLASH Magazine
“Sassy, streetwise pop with a voice that's reminiscent of Florence Welch” - Hot Press Magazine
“A genre-defying, acerbic yet also jubilant gem of a song from an extraordinary artist” - Gary Lightbody, Snow Patrol
Fresh from winning the Oh Yeah Contender Award for Best Emerging Act at the 2018 Northern Ireland Music Prize, opening for Snow Patrol on their UK arena tour in January and February (at the personal request of Gary Lightbody) and playing shows on three different continents in just 3 months, the 19-year-old electro pop artist ROE is about to drop her latest single, ‘Down Days’.
“I was having a really bad day. I felt like I couldn’t talk to anyone without annoying them, and I was angry and frustrated at myself. I felt like my brain was about to explode, with no idea how to handle it. That night I came home and started to write this song as a way of trying to make myself feel better. It’s okay not to feel okay. At a time when it can feel that we’re surrounded by negativity and constant social pressure, it’s important to remember that no matter how shitty you feel, you are not alone.” ROE explains.
The new release comes at the beginning of a busy year for the young songwriter. She kicks off the year supporting Snow Patrol on their arena tour around the UK, plays her first ever Irish headline shows in February before heading to Austin, Texas to perform at the world famous SXSW festival in March. ROE was also included in BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens’ Tips for 2019, as well as RTE 2fm’s 2019 Rising List. 2019 is due to be a big year for this emerging talent.
‘Down Days’ will be released via Fictive Kin Records, available worldwide via all major digital retailers on Feb 1st.
