Classically trained and seasoned composer, singer/songwriter and music producer, Zory Burner develops a wide variety of music projects.
Playing the piano and performing at solo or duo classical concerts for 10 years, as well as singing and co-leading a Bulgarian Orthodox choir for 7 years in her youth, has shaped Zory's compositional style, which is inspired by a thousand-year-old musical phenomenon - the Pre-Renaissance Byzantine chants and the Bulgarian folklore. Her niche is in creating a hybrid of genres and she is known for the element of mystery and a haunting feel to her music.
Zory released her solo debut album in early 2010 and since then, her work has spread over several different areas of the music industry: scoring dozens of films, screened at local and international film festivals, creating soundtracks to several dance choreography works ("Nurture Vs Nature", premiered at the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, 2013; "Fight or Flight" - part 2 from "Survival of the Fittest", performed at the Edinburgh Fringe festival, 2013; "Unspoken Words", presented at Flash in the Attic Dance Theatre, Chester, premiered at the Blue Elephant Theatre 2015; "Signs", contemporary dance choreography fusing British Sign Language, premiered at the Young Actors Theatre London, 2016), as well as writing and arranging the music to a new Christian musical, performed at a concert series, "A Journey On The Wings of Music", which was supported by Arts Council England in 2014.
Zory is also the founder and artistic director of vocal ensemble Peregrina EnChantica (www.peregrina.zoryburner.com). As a passionate artivist, Zory developed the ensemble’s “Look Up” project, in support of nature and wildlife conservation, and with a special focus on birds, by creating an original 11-part choral song-cycle, also funded by Arts Council England. This work makes an artistic contribution into the efforts of major conservation organizations and enormously increases the opportunity for their supporters to experience and be involved in artistic activities.
The project started with the creation of “Sub Dio” (“Under The Open Sky”), Peregrina EnChantica’s first released single in early 2015 and forming a partnership with David Lindo (The Urban Birder - naturalist, writer, broadcaster), contributing to UK’s National Bird Vote. “Sub Dio” became the campaign’s anthem; it was published by InkStain Press, US, and presented on Amazing Radio. The ensemble serenaded birding enthusiasts and experts alike with their second, pre-release single, “Forgotten Names” - a special dedication to the highly endangered species of birds, on Hen Harrier Day 2016-17 at Rainham Marshes Nature Reserve, in contribution to RSPB's Skydancer & Hen Harrier Life projects, and at BirdFair Festival - the "Birders’ Glastonbury", in Rutland Water Nature Reserve.
Zory ran a tremendously successful concert series, first edition 2015/16, featuring performances at multiple national and international festivals, including the Southbank Centre’s Chorus Festival, the International Youth Festival of Arts, "The Muses" at Sozopol, Bulgaria, where the ensemble was awarded first place in four categories, and the Brandenburg choral festival of London. Followed by the project being awarded with a grant by ACE and running a second “Look Up” lecture-concert series 2017/2018, featuring thought-provoking talks by prominent guest speakers from the wildlife conservation world: Dr Mark Avery, Dr Debbie Pain, David Lindo (The Urban Birder), Charlie Moores and young conservationist Findlay Wilde.
Peregrina EnChantica has also developed a collaboration with the Lush company, through their common interest and passion for conservation. The ensemble was featured in an interview on Lush Radio and for an article on making a difference through music; Zory Burner's original song-cycle was exclusively presented at Lush's Global Media Studio in Soho, in August 2018.
