“a polished body of work, draped in modern electronics and textured synths.” - XLR8R
“an undulating piece of digital abstraction, forever in evolution but remarkably succinct … worth comparing to Jon Hopkins or James Holden” - Clash
“an impeccably layered slice of modern electronic music … It's intelligent. It's original. It's excellent.” - PopMatters
South London electronic artist Peter Ibbetson reveals ‘Thistle Hotels’, the next single from his forthcoming second EP ‘Control Yourself’. The deep track builds to a blissful late night conclusion over six minutes of impeccably layered electronics.
Following last year’s ‘Rivals’ EP, ‘Control Yourself’ is a heady mix of analog synthesisers, live drums and expansive soundscapes creating a multi textured, layered journey through ambient, house, post rock and techno.
Since airing the debut EP in 2018 - and seeing a positive response from Apple Music, BBC Radio 1, XLR8R and Clash - Ibbetson has taken time to develop the live elements of the project and performed as a three-piece at the Old Blue Last alongside Ninja Tune’s Blockhead. The live drums heard throughout the new EP add organic movement and contrast to the dance floor elements - fully encapsulating Ibbetson’s multi instrumental approach.
Peter Ibbetson has cut his teeth already touring regularly as part of the live outfits for George Fitzgerald and Makeness, so it’s no surprise to see his original work emerging fully formed and thriving. With more live shows on the horizon 2019 looks promising.
